Inside studio 2024

From Polish Roots to Irish Inspiration:

Born in the Greater Poland region of Poland, I've been surrounded by art for as long as I can remember. My mother, a painter herself, undoubtedly played a significant role in nurturing my own artistic spirit. Perhaps the first spark igniting my artistic passion came at the age of 13, during a local artist workshop with my mother. Working with oil paints to capture the beauty of flowers, I discovered a sense of deep relaxation and pure joy in creating.

Following an Intuitive Urge:

Driven by an innate desire to explore new horizons, I moved to Ireland in 2003. While completing my Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication (awarded in 2005), I navigated the back-and-forth between Poland and Ireland, fueled by the lure of this new landscape. The mystical and untamed beauty of Irish nature deeply resonated with me, exceeding all my expectations.

A Leap of Faith and Artistic Reemergence:

For ten years, I pursued various careers outside the realm of art. However, in 2012, I made a life-altering decision to leave my corporate job and embrace my artistic aspirations. The following years saw me successfully selling hundreds of artworks across the globe. Yet, recently, a sense of incompleteness emerged. I realised I desired to connect more deeply with my audience by sharing the stories and inspirations behind my paintings.

Magzoid article

“Nestled in the wild and mystical forests of Co. Wicklow, Ireland, artist Anna Matykiewicz creates expressive and thought-provoking portraits that probe the complexity of the human soul and chime with the Irish landscape. The artist’s paintings are a reflection of her wide-ranging interests and experiences, which include spiritual development, psychology, and true crime podcasts.

“To me, life is a series of strides towards greater self-awareness and growth, but I can’t help but be intrigued by the shadowy aspects of the human condition. My artwork blends these factors,” says Anna Matykiewicz

Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, Anna’s portraits embody the dark and eerie ambience of the Irish wilderness, creating an eerie and captivating energy in her works. Driven by a desire to explore the depths of human emotion, Anna delves into the innermost aspects of the human psyche, focusing on female faces and the range of emotions that they convey.

The artist’s approach to expressing her artistic works is quite intuitive, leading her over the veil of reality and into the magical world as she begins with seemingly unrelated pictures as a reference. Every creation is a one-of-a-kind reflection of the artist’s deepest feelings and ideas, summing up the transient nature of the human soul. In some works, Anna’s self-portraits take centre stage, showcasing her personal journey of growth and change, both internal and external.

Through her portraits, Anna invites the viewer to contemplate the darker aspects of human nature, exploring the depths of the human psyche in a hauntingly beautiful and mesmerizing way. Connecting with the artist’s work lets you be transported to a mystical realm where the boundaries between reality and the unknown blur and emotions take centre stage. Buckle up to be moved and mesmerized by this talented artist’s emotional portraits. Anna likes to focus on emotions and create new faces, although some images show more directly as self-portraits.”
